Our investment approach

The Trust fund was created when assets to the value of $155 was settled by the Otago Central Electric Power Trust in November 2000.

One of CLT's primary objectives is to grow its capital base so that funds are available in perpetuity for the benefit of future generations.

CLT is proud to own a 100% shareholding in Pioneer Energy. This investment comprises approximately 35% of Central Lakes Trust’s portfolio.

Pioneer Energy’s business now includes multiple hydro and wind generation sites, energy solutions and retail of electricity across New Zealand. Pioneer is governed by an independent board of directors and its net valuation is currently $172 million.

Pioneer pays an annual dividend to CLT, which assists us in providing valuable financial support to community initiatives. For more information about Pioneer Energy follow the link: pioneerenergy.co.nz
