Capability Grant

Purpose

The Capability Grant provides funding of up to $5,000 to support training, professional development, and capability-building opportunities that strengthen your team, your organisation and your community.

The funding is designed specifically for community organisations, with a focus on building long-term sustainability.

Through the grant, CLT aims to help organisations develop the skills and knowledge needed to respond to common sector challenges – including an uncertain funding environment, a shortage of volunteers, limited governance experience, or a lack of capacity for long-term strategic planning and outcome measurement. Support is available for staff development as well as organisation wide training initiatives. 

What can be funded

Capability training that strengthens your team, supports your organisation’s charitable purpose and increases your capacity, capability and sustainability. This includes:

• staff and volunteer professional training and development

• impact and outcome measurement training and development

• strategic and organisational planning

• systems and technology review and/or training

• bicultural competency

• governance strengthening.

  
  

What can't be funded

Work that excludes training or in house professional development, such as:

• website development (or refresh)

• systems development (or refresh)

• capital expenditure, i.e. purchasing equipment

• costs associated with hiring staff or ongoing contracted support for business-as-usual operational activities       

• retrospective costs

• subsidising shortfalls or other operational funding.

Any training/development that has been funded by CLT previously.

Application rounds 

Applications are accepted in two rounds:

Round 1

Opens: 1 February

Closes: 30 April 

Decision: 31 May 

Round 2

Opens: 1 August

Closes: 31 October

Decision: 30 November 

This is a limited funding pool of $25,000 per round; all decisions are at the discretion of Central Lakes Trust.

Eligibility criteria 

You can apply for a Capability Grant once every 12 months, even if you receive other funding from us, provided it is not for the same training you are applying for.

To apply, your organisation must: 

• be registered with Charities Services

• be registered on our granting portal Fluxx

• have an annual organisational operating budget of under $200,000 per annum. 

Please note: this fund is not available to schools, tertiary education providers or early childhood centres.

Final notes

Due to the limited nature of the fund meeting the eligibility criteria and applying does not guarantee funding, however, we will work with you to help achieve the best outcome, whether that be funding from us or funding from other potential providers or a combination of both.
