Campaigning guidelines

Election campaigning may commence after nominations close at midday on Thursday, 25 September 2025 and may continue up to, and including, election day (midday on Friday, 21 November 2025). This includes candidate hoardings, bill-boards and signage and all must comply with local authority by-laws. These controls are based on the existing legislation, policies and by-laws and provide a set of rules for controlling the timing, size, density and location of election signs and these can vary from one local authority to another.

The use of CLT’s logo and other resources is NOT permitted in election campaigning or any form of election campaign advertising or promotion of a candidate, such as flyers, newspapers, publications etc.

CLT will not pay for or reimburse candidates for any campaign expenditure.

No election material can contain any untrue statement defamatory of any candidate and calculated to influence the vote of any elector.

Frequently asked questions

The following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) have been compiled by Central Lakes Trust (CLT) to assist CLT staff to answer enquiries from electors and potential candidates.

Please note that the FAQs are not, and cannot be, inclusive of every question or query that may be asked about the local elections.

The FAQs also recognise that some types of questions received will need to be referred to the Returning Officer for answer due to their complex/sensitive nature.
